Asuquo Ekpenyong breaks Ramadan fast with Muslim Community

Asuquo Ekpenyong on Friday evening played host to the Muslim community and leaders of the All Progressive Congress (APC), to an Iftar break of Ramadan fast at Channel View Hotels, Calabar.
Ekpenyong who strongly believes in religious tolerance, identified with Muslim faithfuls as they carry out their Islamic obligations in the holy month of Ramadan.
The Former Commissioner used the opportunity to consult the Muslim Community of his intentions to run for 2023 Governorship in Cross River State. He appealed to the Muslim faithfuls in the state to put to good use the lessons, teachings and sacrifices of the holy month to remain peaceful, devoted and law-abiding citizens.
He also urged the APC Leaders who in solidarity joined the Former Commissioner in hosting the Leaders of the Muslim Community to use the Ramadan period to unite as one big Political Family without the mindset of Old or New APC dichotomy, and pray fervently for the state and nation at large.
According to him, “This is a historic night, It is a reminder that we are a nation founded on religious liberty, where people seeking opportunity and a better life can find it, regardless of their faith. It also demonstrates that Muslim Nigerians are a part of Cross River State. It is important to take a moment to recognize how historic this iftar is. Let me use this opportunity to officially consult you over my ambition for the number one position of the state while using the opportunity to appeal to members of our party in Cross River state to come together and let’s reconcile our differences in the spirit of Ramadan. We should not forget to offer special prayers for the peace, security and prosperity of Cross River State and Nigeria at large.”
Speaking earlier, Sarki Alhaji Garba Lawal, Head of Hausa Community Cross River State said Iftar is the evening meal with which Muslims end their daily Ramadan fast at sunset.
"People see that the food we eat was given to us by a Christian, a politician and technocrat that everyone knows. It shows that we can really live together, that we can be friends, and that we can live in peace.” On this day we pray for your ambition and seek Allah’s guidance and intervention over your success in leading the good people of Cross River State.
Alhaji Ado Bayero who spoke in the Efik native dialect called for togetherness, peace, love and tolerance as a great tool over his ambition to govern Cross River State. He said the Muslim Family will do everything possible within their reach to ensure that he emerges as the next Governor of Cross River State. According to him it would be better for someone who understands the policies of His Excellency Senator Prof Ben Ayade to continue as Governor of the State.
Rounding up the Iftar, Chairman of Asuquo Ekpenyong Consultative Forum, Elder Sam Bassey thanked the Muslim faithfuls for coming to share in their little way of encouraging their resilience for a better Nigeria through their fasting and prayers. He called on them to join hands and move the Project Asuquo Ekpenyong to reality.
