Senator Asuquo Ekpenyong Expresses His Sadness By The Death of Mr. Offiong Onoyom

I am extremely saddened by the death of a brother and dear friend, Offiong Onoyom.

Offiong was not only a critical success factor for my success at the polls, but he was also a true friend. An extremely honest and hardworking man, he sowed as much as anyone into the project, but God, in his infinite wisdom, took him away before he could benefit from his hard work and sacrifice. I want to assure us all that his family will reap what he has sowed.

I am now more than ever committed to ensuring that I live up to the expectations of a just man like Offiong, a man who didn’t support this project for pecuniary gain, but because he believed we could alleviate the conditions of our people and give real representation to the district. He worked for the success of this project in sickness and until victory, but he didn’t stop there. Even in further ill health, he committed his franchise to ensuring the victory of the Senate president.

They say it matters not the years of your life but rather the life in your years. In that regard, I can confidently say Offiong has left indelible footprints on the sands of time. He has been instrumental in the success of many leaders in Cross River and beyond, and I pray that his legacy and family live on. He leaves behind his wife, his 2 year old boy and his 3 month old girl, I implore us to remain a family to his family.

Finally, I would like to please admonish us to live an exemplary life as we do not know the day or hour of our calling.

May God forgive any of Offiong’s shortcomings and grant him eternal peace in Jesus name, Amen.
