On Tuesday 25th July 2023 , Senator Asuquo Ekpenyong alongside, Senator Yunus Akintude from Oyo Central and Senator Aminu Abbas from Adamawa Central, co-sponsored a motion on the urgent need to halt the proposed increase in electricity tariff by the electricity DisCos.
The Senate unanimously resolved that the Federal Government of Nigeria must intervene and halt the proposed tariff increase. The Senate further resolved that NERC reconsiders the rate review, taking into consideration the interest of citizens, affordability and the need to mitigate the growing inflationary pressures.
