The Investigative Hearing on The Persistent Denial of Treatment and Care to Victims of Gunshot Wounds - A case of Ms. Greatness Olorunfemi.

On Tuesday, 6th February, 2024 as a follow up to the motion Senator Asuquo Ekpenyong raised on the floor of the Senate on the 5th of October 2023 with regards to the alleged denial of treatment to Ms Greatness Olorunfemi, he attended an investigative hearing that was constituted as a resolution from the motion. 



The investigative hearing on the persistent denial of treatment and care to victims of gunshot wounds was chaired by the Senate Committee Chairman on Health, Sen. Dr Banigo Ipalibo and had the Senate President, Sen. Godswill Akpabio as special guest of honour.


Presentations were made by various stakeholders including representatives from the Federal Ministry of Health, the Ministry of FCT, the Inspector General of Police, Nigeria Medical Association, National Association of Resident Doctors, Maitama District Hospital, and YALI network, the organisation Ms Olorunfemi worked with. 


At the end of "A 5 hour" emotional session, the hearing was adjourned for further presentations and evidences to be tendered. Senator Ekpenyong in his final submission expressed hope that, justice will be done in the case of Ms Olorunfemi and that Nigeria must achieve faster response times for victims of gunshot and other emergencies to save more lives.
