Senator Asuquo Ekpenyong Moved Motion of Urgent National Importance on The Need to Bring to an End The Incessant Spate of Killings and Boundary Disputes Happening in Parts of Odukpani Local Government Area of Cross River State.

On Tuesday the 21st of May, Senator Asuquo Ekpenyong moved a motion of Urgent National Importance on the floor of the Senate on the need to bring to an end the incessant spate of killings and Boundary Disputes happening in parts of Odukpani Local Government Area of Cross River State. 


He made reference to the sad reality that Odukpani Local Government Area in particular, and Cross River State in general, has been plagued by land and boundary disputes, including a long-lasting boundary dispute between Ukwa community of Odukpani and Isu Community of Abia State, which has claimed a substantial number of lives and destroyed properties;


Senator Asuquo Ekpenyong expressed the concern that there may be more reprisal attacks by aggrieved parties if the Federal Government does not move fast to quell the situation and restore peace and order in the communities.


The Senate proceeded to unanimously adopt the prayers of the motion including condemnation of the killings, observation of a minute silence in honour of the deceased, the call for intervention by the IG of Police to station a police barracks in Ukwa Community, as well as the immediate intervention of the National Boundary Commission, the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs & Poverty Alleviation respectively to properly demarcate boundaries, and provide succor to victims.
